![]() ![]() I think we hear a return to this much louder, more powerful Dew in the later years, like Alpine Valley (1989). So you have that wall of sound that announces what's coming, and you also have extra volume on Jerry's opening high notes. This one, in particular, starts with thunder. Some of the earlier Dews are very much of their time, and echo sound qualities often heard in the music of the Byrds, and Jefferson Airplane. But the earlier Dews are at times more psychedelic, in the style of the day. Later Dews are sweeter and milder especially during the 1975-1977 period, often marked by subtle opening bars. There's real majesty and power in this Dew, and to me is an important entry in the evolution of this song over the years.
